Complete vintage 1983 Dragonfly: Assault Copter (XH-1) & Wild Bill pilot.
The 1983 G.I. Joe Dragonfly XH-1 Assault Copter is one of the most recognizable vehicles from Hasbro’s original A Real American Hero line. Designed as a heavily armed attack helicopter and loosely based on the real-world AH-1 Cobra/SuperCobra family, the Dragonfly was released in 1983 and came packaged with Wild Bill (William S. Hardy), the G.I. Joe Team’s cowboy-styled helicopter pilot.
The 3.75-inch-scale toy featured an opening cockpit canopy, working winch, rotating main rotor, nose-mounted weapons, a side-mounted gun, and an impressive array of six missiles—four air-to-ground Sidewinders and two Sidewinder H.E. missiles.
With its olive-green military styling and aggressive attack-helicopter design, the Dragonfly quickly became a signature piece of the early G.I. Joe vehicle lineup. Wild Bill’s distinctive cowboy hat, sunglasses, and helicopter-pilot role made him a particularly memorable character, and the pair became closely associated with the G.I. Joe aerial forces throughout the vintage era.
The Dragonfly was subsequently repainted as the Tiger Force Tiger Fly in 1988, further cementing its place as one of the classic vehicles of the original G.I. Joe toy line.
