Vintage 1970s pinback button featuring the artwork from the 1975 debut album Disco-Tex and His Sex-O-Lettes Review on Chelsea Records (CHL 505). This piece captures the high-energy, campy style of one of disco's most theatrical acts.
Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes were formed in 1974 in The Bronx by legendary producer Bob Crewe, who envisioned bringing the wild atmosphere of underground New York gay clubs to mainstream audiences. The group became staple figures in early disco culture, known for their bold performances and star-studded lineup.
Sir Monti Rock III—born Joseph Montanez Jr.—fronted the group as the charismatic Disco-Tex. Before his disco transformation, he was a celebrated celebrity hair stylist and frequent talk-show guest on The Merv Griffin Show. The "Sex-O-Lettes" backing vocalists included a young Jocelyn Brown, who later became a defining voice in house and dance music, and rock singer Cindy Bullens.
The group released two studio albums: their 1975 self-titled debut and Manhattan Millionaire in 1976. This promotional pin is a tangible piece of 1970s disco history and the theatrical spirit that defined the era.
