Peter Max brought his unmistakable psychedelic style to NASCAR in 2000 when he designed a special paint scheme for Dale Earnhardt’s iconic No. 3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Chevrolet. Replacing Earnhardt’s traditional black car, the Max design featured bright shades of yellow, pink, purple, blue, and green, creating one of the most colorful and unusual No. 3 cars ever seen on the track. Earnhardt drove the car in both The Winston all-star race and the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, finishing third in The Winston. The collaboration became a memorable meeting of Max’s pop-art world and NASCAR racing, and the colorful design was later preserved in collectibles like the vehicle shown here
