Alan Shepard, American astronaut, signed and framed 8x10" photo. Inscribed with date "5/5/61." Shepard is known as the second person, and the first American, in space. This is an image of him being rescued from the landing craft. A remarkable piece of space history from the Mercury program. Shepard's Freedom 7 mission on May 5, 1961, lasted just 15 minutes but made him an American hero and paved the way for the Apollo program. Beyond his historic spaceflight, Shepard later walked on the Moon during Apollo 14 in 1971, making him one of only twelve people to achieve this feat. His signature on this recovery photo captures a pivotal moment in the Space Race. A treasured collectible for aviation and space enthusiasts. JSA authenticated with sticker and card certificate (CG62912). Includes newspaper clipping from event that signature was obtained.
